About
November 22nd, 2007
Hello. My name is Daniel Johnson, aka Daniel Primed, and this is my self-titled game analysis blog. I started this blog in 2007, writing topical editorial pieces, but quickly transitioned into more long-form, game-specific writing. Inspired by my great friend and mentor Richard Terrell and his extensive work on developing a video game vocabulary, I decided to write Game Design Companion: A Critical Analysis of Wario Land 4 Following Game Design Companion‘s release in 2014, I designed The Cave of Ātman, a short puzzle game inspired by Japanese SRPGs. In 2015, I wrote ‘Cracking the Resident Evil Puzzle Box‘, a chapter in Level Design: Processes and Experiences by Christopher Totten. My second and third books, Speed Boost: The Hidden Secrets Behind Arcade Racing Game Design and Adventures in Games Analysis: Volume I were released in 2021 and 2023 after a number of delays. I am currently working on another book in the Game Design Companion series.
