About

Daniel Primed, yep, that’s me; using my online screen name as a branded guise for a blog title.

Really, I’m Daniel Johnson, 20 year old, University student from Australia who studies language and culture. Much like yourself, I love video games and it holds a special place in my heart. Over the years I have invested my creative energy into areas of interest such as digital design and photography. In recent years though I turned to blogging as an outlet for a long desired passion to express myself, beginning with personal blogging and then branching out into video games. Of course, I still enjoy my design and photography, the former of which is presented on the site. This overdue desire for expression, combined with a head full of video game wisdom is what encouraged me to pursue video game writing.

Another, often unspoken reason for writing about games stems from a greater frustration built up over years. I have always loved games and they mean so much to me, as I’m sure that they do to you as well. Unfortunately that interest has always been matched with dissuasion against it, and as I have learnt through my time blogging, such negative aura is largely created by a lack of understanding and appreciation of the medium.

I feel that deep within my experience of play, there is something there, something important which as of yet, I am ill equipped to describe. This blog represents something of a journey to describe that evergreen feeling which binds me to gameplay. Infact, as a whole, video game players and writers are still a long way from translating this complex feeling into literature so that it can be celebrated and understood not just by us, but by everyone.

We’re on our way though and I guess that’s what this blog is about; an attempt to harness an understanding of what is feels like to play a video game through techniques of analysis and critique. That just about does it from me, I hope that you enjoy the content on display, any questions can be forwarded to me via the contact form.
